Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILFRED A. LOEPPKY March 25, 1919 - May 26, 2005 It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle on May 26. Wilfred spent the early part of his life in Gretna, MB, where he was born, raised, attended school, married and began to raise a family. After serving in the Second World War in a medical unit, he found permanent employment with the Interprovincial Pipeline and with Imperial Oil moved to Edmonton in 1967. After retirement he and his wife, Lillian, moved to Fort Saskatchewan where he honed his hobbies such as gardening and wine-making. In the last five years of his life Wilfred made many friends at Glenwood Village where he served on the maintenance committee and crafted the birdhouses that now grace the community. Wilfred was predeceased by his father and mother, Erdmann and Selma Loeppky; his wife Lillian; his sister Gerda Ulrich and his granddaughter Francis Wharton Loeppky. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, son Robert (Bob), his wife Dorothy Wharton, their son Jonathan; daughter Barbara, her husband Brad Kendall, their children, Scott and Dawn and her fiance Nicholas Schwartz. Wilfred's memory will also be cherished by his sisters, Frieda Loeppky and Mildred Giesbrecht; nieces, nephews and many friends who will remember him as a strong yet gentle man. A memorial service and reception will be held at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel at 16204 Fort Road on Thursday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caritas Hospitals Foundation, Palliative Care Unit (9Y), 11111 Jasper Ave., Edmonton, AB T5K 0L4 or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses, doctors and other health care professionals who cared for Wilfred throughout his illness, and in particular to the people at the Palliative Care Unit of the General Hospital who provided such compassionate care in his final days.
